Aphros and its members come together weekly for general body meetings. Currently on Tuesdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm, email us for more information/meeting space details. We cover submission and editorial reminders, partake in various writing exercises, and provide a space for writers to gather.

Editorial meetings take place during the spring semester of every academic year and encompass a reviewing and voting on student submissions. As the weeks of the semester progress, submissions are edited for grammar, structure, and flow—they are then refined accordingly. We verify all edits with the writer before publishing any modifications. We strive to maintain the integrity and autonomy of creative intent.

We hold 1-2 writer’s workshops per semester. During the event, “breakout groups” are organized according to genre. From fiction to poetry to non-fiction, writers can join groups of interest to read aloud their work and receive feedback. We establish a safe space for positive evaluations as well as constructive criticism. We ensure mutual respect is upheld during critiques and do not tolerate any intentionally disrespectful comments.

We host an “Open Mic Night” where student writers, musicians, and performers take the stage to share their work. This event is held annually, and acts as an incredibly encouraging space to share one’s work, listen and appreciate the work of others, as well as gain confidence reading/performing for an audience.

Held once per academic year during our spring semester, our Launch Party celebrates and promotes the release of our annual publication. Contributors, editors, club members, and English department faculty are invited to a catered event to hear snippets of the magazine read aloud and socialize. A truly special spectacle, Aphros looks forward to this festive gathering each year.
